Luis Portillo was born into a Christian family from Honduras. Since his teenage years, he felt a call from God to go to other nations and preach the Gospel of Jesus. He felt a specific calling to South America. He married Karla Molina, who also wanted to become a missionary in places where there would be the most need for the Gospel. During his seminary training time, Luis and Karla prayed about where specifically God wanted to send them to plant a church. They searched for the places of most need in South America and found that the area of Cusco in Peru is one of those places. After completing his seminary training in Honduras, the Portillo family moved to Dallas, Texas, to be trained at The Village Church in order to be sent out to plant a new church in the city of Cusco, Peru. Luis is the lead planter of Iglesia Cristiana en Cusco, a church that seeks to focus on the Word, the Spirit, and the mission of Jesus Christ.
The mission of Iglesia Cristiana en Cusco is to be empowered by the Spirit to passionately follow Jesus, know Him, and make Him known. Luis and his wife Karla have three children: Daniel, Sara, and Gabriela. They're all excited about moving to Peru and advancing the Kingdom of Jesus.
